Poetry Reading: Al Mutanabbi Street

The Jaffe Center for Book Arts will host a performance of poetry from the Al-Mutanabbi Street Coalition Broadsides. JCBA is home to one of only ten complete portfolios of this collection, which printmakers and poets teamed up to create in response to the detonation of a car bomb on Al-Mutanabbi Street in Baghdad. Named after the famed 10th Century classical Arab poet, Al- Mutanabbi, this street has been, since time immemorial, the historic heart and soul of the Baghdad literary and intellectual community.

March 5th will be the ninth anniversary of the event, so on March 4th, at 2:00PM, three exceptional storytellers -- Joey De La Rua, Abby Nigro, and Randall Swinton -- will share a selection of poems from the portfolio.

The reading will be followed by JCBA's March edition of Real Mail Friday, an event characterized by infinite letter writing materials, coffee, tea, and desserts. While this may seem like a disarmingly festive counterpoint to the readings, we find that RMF gives people time to reflect that they otherwise wouldn't have taken.

No reservations are mandatory, and donations are suggested.
